What do you remember most about your graduation day? We asked this question on Facebook, and below are some of the responses we received. You can read more here!

I played trumpet at nearly every graduation ceremony during my 4 years in Madison. During my actual graduation, I played trumpet with a hat on.

Peter D

I got to speak at my L&S commencement ceremony and surprised my family when they saw me on stage!

Sam H

It was December, the last graduation in the Field House. A couple of my friends were in the band and trumpeted for me when they called my name!

Angela H

My graduation was in the Field House in 1975. My parents had both passed by then, but I do remember my aunt holding a lovely graduation party for me at her home.

Beth H. S.

My brother-in-law followed me into the Field House to return my cap and gown, and after I turned it in, he grabbed my hat and hid it so when we got outside, he handed it to me as a souvenir. I still have it with my diploma.

Susan D

Going to the Terrace with my parents and enjoying a final pitcher of beer.

Carla A

Meeting up with all of my AOS friends so we could sit together during the spring commencement in the Field House.

Traci W

I remember arriving late to the Field House because my family couldn’t find parking, and it was below zero and icy (December 1995).

Andrea R. S.

My sibling and I both graduated in 2018, and the day of my ceremony in May was much colder than their ceremony in December!

Helen R

Crying with pride on my way into the Field House. Loved my time in Madison, the very best memories.

Kelley R. K.

It was very, very hot. None of my close friends were graduating from L&S that May, so my fiancé sat with me in Camp Randall even though he had just graduated from the University of Tulsa. Football coach Don Morton was assigned to the section we were sitting in, so he and my (now) husband chatted about TU, as that’s where Morton had previously coached, and my husband had run track with and tutored some of his players.

Kristin S.N.

It was 81 degrees at Camp Randall with the sun blazing. I was sweating in the heavy gown, nursing a painful hangover, trying to make it through the ceremony. It was glorious!

Miki F

Sunshine, parents' first visit to campus.

Dallas D.

One of the speakers, Bernie Ziegler, a regent, saying to us, “Welcome to the establishment“ (1970)

Lynn P

I graduated in June 1964, and we walked out of the ceremony to protest the Vietnam War. I did come back to receive my diploma.

Jo Betty S

On the day I got my master's degree in 1973, we came back to our house in Sun Prairie before going to Herreman's Supper Club. The mail came, and in it was a statement showing the balance I owed on my student loan. It was about $300. My dad turned to my mother and said, "Write out a check." It was his way of saying "Congratulations!" It still brings back tears!

Jane R

Sitting on Lincoln’s lap for a picture, the ceremony taking place outdoors in Camp Randall, raining a bit (umbrellas were allowed back then), then brunch with my family and close friends at “Inn on The Park” overlooking The Capitol. Mostly, I remember how special my mom always made my celebrations. I miss my parents terribly.

André De Shields singing the Age of Aquarius.

It was a beautiful, sunny day at Camp Randall. I graduated with honors, and my family and future husband watched from the stands. I felt so proud to be a Wisconsin graduate!

Picnic after the ceremony in Brittingham Park, where this photo of 3 generations of Meek House (8th floor of Witte B) House Fellows was taken.
