The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA) is dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all UW alumni, as well as their family and friends. Upholding our values means recognizing that, at times, our efforts to engage diverse alumni have fallen short. Since 2018, to address these shortcomings, our leadership has made outreach and engagement of diverse alumni a top organizational priority.
To improve the diverse alumni experience, we have produced and implemented strategic plans to meaningfully engage with alumni of color and LGBTQ+ alumni. In addition, staff who serve on the organization’s diverse alumni engagement work group (details below) continue to improve and strengthen policies and procedures that impact the diverse alumni experience.

WFAA’s Diverse Alumni Engagement Work Group
The overall goal of the diverse alumni engagement work group is to provide a space for Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA) staff to discuss and develop concrete strategies for engaging diverse alumni by building community-based partnerships, cultivating internal WFAA programming, enhancing internal multicultural knowledge, and strengthening advancement and campus partnerships. The initiatives developed by this work group are guided by Schlossberg’s Theory of Mattering and Marginality.
The work group is co-led by staff from the Alumni Relations and Engagement division. It consists of 10 to 12 staff from across the organization.
