AlumniLink, First-Ever Local Career Event for Alumni of All UW System Schools, Set for May 24

On Wednesday, May 24, The Marq in De Pere (3177 French Road) will be invaded by an odd collection of wild animals (panthers, warhawks, yellow jackets, badgers, falcons, eagles, pointers) fierce fighters (rangers, titans), some pioneers, and even a few mythical creatures (phoenix, blue devils, blugolds). No, Hollywood isn’t using the banquet facility as its newest blockbuster movie set. In fact, something much more unique is happening there that day: AlumniLink, the first-ever career, networking and learning event for alumni of all UW System schools.

Graduates from any of UW System’s 13 universities are invited to attend this free event, which will be broken down into three distinct experiences:

  • CAREER FAIR: 30+ Green Bay area employers looking for smart, talented team members, will run from 4-6 p.m.
  • NETWORKING: Attendees can meet up with old friends and make new connections – as well as enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar – from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • PRESENTATION – “The Upside of Anger: In the Workplace and on the Homefront”: At 7:30 p.m., Dr. Ryan Martin, chair of UW-Green Bay’s psychology department and a recognized expert on anger, will discuss misconceptions about anger, why we get mad and the difference between healthy and unhealthy anger.

AlumniLink is being sponsored and organized by local Badgers and Phoenix (Wisconsin Alumni Association’s Brown County chapter and UW-Green Bay’s Alumni Association).

“As we started the planning process for AlumniLink, we very quickly realized that we wanted the benefits of this event to reach beyond just the alumni of our two universities,” recalls Kari Moody, director of alumni relations at UWGB. “The UW System, by definition, is a collaborative network of excellent schools, so it was very natural for us to create an event that reflects that collaborative spirit.”

Janet Bonkowski, president of UW-Madison’s Brown County alumni chapter, adds, “The goal of AlumniLink is to contribute to the continued professional growth of our state’s fine universities. It doesn’t matter whether they are recent grads or have been out of school for many years…or whether they already live and work here or are planning a move to Titletown. All are welcome, and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing alumni from so many different schools all in one place!”

While there is no charge for any portion of AlumniLink, those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance.
