The mission of the Bay Area Badgers Chapter Scholarship Fund is to help academically exceptional Bay Area students attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focusing on those with financial need and from historically underrepresented groups.
We asked our scholars during homecoming weekend, what has been the best part of your freshman year so far?
Freshman year so far has been a very unique and interesting time. Covid-19 has definitely impacted a lot ranging from in person classes to attending football games, and it really hurts that I’m not able to experience these things. However, here at Wisconsin, I have met incredible people that I have gotten very close to already which has really helped bring fun into these weird times. All the professors and administrators have done an incredible job with understanding the struggles of online while maintaining an academic atmosphere. I feel that people are always willing to help at Wisconsin. It is starting to get colder which is a big change from California weather, but I really don’t mind. Once you have a big jacket on, the crisp air is refreshing, and it’s cool to experience real seasons. – Eric
This year’s scholars have certainly had an untraditional start to their college experience but we are encouraged to hear that they’ve made the best of it.
The best part of freshman year has been the chance to explore campus. There are so many great places on campus and they have all helped me to relax during this unique time. I love being able to walk the lakeside trail or read on one of the benches on the lake. I also love the NICK and all of the new equipment that it has provided for me to use. I never feel bored because there is always something that I haven’t explored around campus. -Alec
